Today is Father’s Day in the US, as well as Juneteenth. A double whammy of a day for holidays, but I’m not complaining! Besides getting the Monday off from work (thanks, federal government), I also get to celebrate quality time with my family. In fact, we’re traveling for the long weekend– granted, it’ll be a short one, but definitely a much-needed one after so long.
The plan is to pay for a nice meal out of town, my sister and I, for my dad. Although a simple dinner can’t fully show gratitude to all the years of him raising and caring for us (especially after my mom passed), I think picking up the tab is a thoughtful offer that we, his daughters, could at least do for him. As well as to cherish each day and second with him as we get older, to be there for and to take care of him. I know not everyone has or has had a strong, father figure, but for me I do, and that gives me the reason to celebrate today (and every day) with my own.
Happy Father’s Day to all, and a wonderful weekend. ❤
