Greetings!
Today is Lunar New Year, a holiday that is celebrate not only in Chinese culture, but also in Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, and other East/Southeast Asian countries in the world. The date falls on February 1st this year, but it changes every year depending on the Lunar calendar.
I already celebrated it with a nice meal with family this past weekend (i.e. hot pot) and am otherwise working on this day. While it would be nice to have a break from work to rest and celebrate my culture, I otherwise appreciate this new year in Eastern culture and hope that it’s a lot better from what I’ve experienced so far in 2022 (i.e. COVID).
Wishing you a wonderful Lunar New Year and prosperity for the rest of 2022! 🙂

Cultural difference between Toronto and Paris. In Toronto the Asian New Year is everywhere, shops, TV, in the street; in Paris nowhere. I didn’t get any red envelopes this year 😦
I’ve found France to be lacking in Lunar New Year celebrations (or, if there’s a big celebration, it’s probably appropriated). I would assume most of the celebrations just happen at home with family, with a simple dinner and all.
Certainly, I have two colleagues of Asian origin who were celebrating, but there’s nothing very public about it, which is a shame as it would be one more festive occasion in a rather bleak time (brrr February)
