Happy Father’s Day 2020

This year’s Father’s Day is a weird one. The reason why is due to the fact that we’re still technically under lock-down in our part of the U.S. (e.g. Los Angeles), and that we shouldn’t risk going out for the sake of our health. While we would love to go out and celebrate with a nice lunch at a Brazilian barbecue restaurant (my dad’s personal favorite), we’re opting not to for safety and instead staying at home with a modest meal, perhaps a drink and cake, if we’re feeling fancy.

Another reason why this Father’s Day is different is because my mom is no longer with us. She passed away last December after a long battle with cancer, and now my dad is widowed. I cannot fully comprehend how sad he must feel all the time now that his wife (i.e. the “love of his life”) is no longer here with him, but I can imagine it must be tough. My sister and I do our best to be there for him and pitch in with the household, but we ultimately know that things aren’t the same anymore.

Just as we celebrated Mother’s Day the month prior, we’re celebrating Father’s Day low-key, choosing to cherish our company together at home instead of a big celebration out. Even if I don’t always see eye-to-eye with everything my dad does or believes in, I know that he does the best he can with me and my sister, and we have a good relationship altogether. He’s all I have now as a parental figure, and I do want to make him happy and proud with what I do in life.

I hope you enjoy this Father’s Day with your own dad or father figure. Keep safe and have a good day.
