Yes, as you can see from the title, I’m heading home to the U.S. after 10 months of living in France. The academic year has ended, so I’m returning to see my family and friends again. I’ve been doing this for the last three years, as my current job as an English teacher has stationed me abroad.
This past year of living in France has been a wild ride, to say the least. You would think that after three years of being here that it’ll be easier, but what I hadn’t anticipated was the need to adjust to a new region, a new flat and roommates, and new workplace. There was roommate (and even some friend) drama which I didn’t want to get into (but it happened), along with the struggle to teach university students for the first time. I would go as far to say that I especially had a hard period in February and part of March, as the winter depression hit badly and made me question why I was doing this in the first place.
But things got better: I got new (and better) roommates, I learned from my teaching mistakes and sought to improve in the following semester, I put myself out there and went out in town, making new friends along the way. I traveled all over, as much as I’d done during my first year in France, visiting and revisiting cities and countries. I’ve come to know myself more, as I hit my “quarter-life crisis” in March, and knowing what to expect in myself and others in terms of values, behaviors, and actions.
As of today, I’m leaving to head to Paris where I’ll be catching my flight back to the U.S. Even upon returning home, I won’t have much time to rest, as my family and I will soon be packing our bags once more for a family trip together, this time to a new place I’m super excited about! As usual, I’ll keep it under wraps, so expect some good travel content to come later!
That said, I’ll be taking another break from blogging (seems like I’m doing it often these days, huh?) as I return home and go on vacation. I still haven’t posted the rest of my *long* trip back in May, but I’ll wait until I get back to complete that, along with the trip I’m taking soon. Expect me to return sometime in July, with plenty of more stories to tell!
Thanks for all of your support, and I’ll be back as soon as you know it! Bon voyage. 🙂
