Happy Sunday, bloggers!
This week’s “Sunday Slow Jams” has been a recent obsession for me. From English singer Dua Lipa, “IDGAF” is a wonderful surprise, both musically and visually.
What makes this track so catchy is its militaristic drums in contrast with the melancholy licks of the guitar, as they battle between feeling sad and angry about a recent heartbreak, as Lipa sings throughout the song. The lyrics itself are about staying strong, moving on, and overall, not “giving a fuck” about an ex-lover who wasn’t worth of her. Granted, some might say that the lyrics are a bit trite, but nonetheless represent a sense of female empowerment.
As for the music video itself, I didn’t expect it to blow me away. Besides its almost-impeccable split-screen technology (which I’m mind-blown just how far it has come in recent years), the color schemes and dance choreography make for a dizzy delight– especially with two Dua Lipas! Also, the artistic direction was managed by Stromae, a Belgian singer and one of the most avant-garde artists out there today, in my opinion. You can’t imagine just how AMAZED by it all– if you don’t mind so much the song, at least watch the music video!
Enjoy the music, and have a good rest of the day!
