Bloggers Recognition Award!

bra

Hello, all!

A while ago, Katie from AiKaiTe nominated me for the “Bloggers Recognition Award,” of which I’m so happy to accept! I actually haven’t received this award yet, and to have someone nominate me for it, I’m super honored. Thanks, Katie!

It’s actually been a while since I’ve last been awarded something, so with that said, let’s get to the rules:

1. Give thanks to the person who had nominated you and a link to their blog.
2. Write a post to show your award.
3. Briefly tell how you started blogging.
4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
5. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award.
6. Comment on the nominated blogs and let them know you have nominated them and give a link to the post you have created.

How I Got Started Blogging

I actually had a few blogs back on Blogger.com, but only for a few months before I switched over to WordPress. I’d always been into writing, since I did so much of it back in high school and college, the latter especially for my English major. I started a blog as a place for me to write about whatever and whenever I wanted, without having to censor myself or go back and polish draft after draft that I’d done so much with in essay writing.

My blog has become a safe, creative space for me to write out my thoughts and ideas, and I admit it has helped me come to terms with so many aspects about my life, such as my sexuality and passion for poetry and travel. This blog has grown along with me over the years, and looking back, I couldn’t have it any other way. 🙂

My Two Cents on Blogging

1. Stay consistent. Granted, it can be tough to write regularly, especially when life gets in the way from time to time. Even worse: writer’s block. However, it helps to push through it by doing things to keep you inspired, such as reading other blogs and expanding your knowledge of things to different types of posts. From daily writing to monthly musings, keeping it consistent will show that you’re serious at your craft, as well as keeping your readers interested and engaged.

2. Write what you know. Sounds like common sense, but there are way too many bloggers out there who write content that they believe will get lots of clicks and views, thereby upping their popularity on the site. Even if their posts end up being super popular, I find that the content on there is absolute crap! Poorly-worded, riddled with grammatical errors and cliché’d sayings, I can say that such posts are not quality work and they don’t give me incentive to continue reading, let alone follow, the blog. That said, writing what you know is so much better: even if it’s on a topic that I have no interest in, if you’re passionate about it, I can see it and that alone can cause me to click on it and give it a read.

…I’m actually not going to nominate any bloggers in particular for this award, just because it wouldn’t be fair to the others whom I can’t include with the 15-person limit (sort of like the 15-items-or-less check-out lines at the grocery store; we can’t be quantifying here, people!). Any case, I hope you got to learn a bit more about my blog and about me as a person.

Thanks for reading, and have yourself a good day!

Nice! We came from similar backgrounds, and look at us now! Blogging is certainly therapeutic for the soul. Thanks for your kind words!
